By default, the site storage is located on the r subdomain of the system’s main domain. We do not recommend using this configuration in production. Instead, park a separate domain (ideally, more than one).
Domain parking and configuration are performed by the system administrator:
- Park the domain following the instructions.
- Once linking is complete, go to Control → Settings → Sites and enter the new domain in the Domain field of the Site storage section. Leave the other fields unchanged.
- Save the changes.
From this moment on, all new sites will use the domain specified in the settings as their main domain.
If sites had already been added by the time you changed the domain, their data will not be updated automatically, so a few extra steps are needed:
- Go to Control → Settings → Utilities → Domains and sites. In the Change site domain section, enter the old domain in the Domain field and the new one in the Change to field. Click Do.
- In the same utility, in the Bulk site updates section, select the Update data files on all sites checkbox and click Do.
The domain change on the existing sites is now complete.
If something happens to the storage domain, switching to a new one is done exactly the same way as the initial setup:
- Park the new domain.
- Set it in the site storage settings.
- Change it on the sites via the utilities.
